Academic Year Fellowship Awards

  • Proposal submission Opens: September 1, 2020
  • Proposal Submission Deadline: October 16, 2020
  • Performance period pending completion of the CUGR student contract: November 1, 2020 – May 1, 20201
  • The spending period for this award ends on May 1, 2020. Expenditures after May 1, 2020, will not be reimbursed.

Responsible Conduct of Research Workshop

Undergraduate students funded by a CUGR Fellowship award are required to complete Responsible Conduct of Research training.

  • Students are responsible for making arrangements to attend the training workshop to fulfill the terms of this contract.
  • If you have already completed this training send your certificate to cugr@maine.edu as soon as possible.
  • Please register as soon as possible  Pre-registration is required (walk-ins will NOT be accepted) and students must register their mentor for the training. To register, please complete the Fall 2020 Undergraduate RCR registration form. Please note, registrants will need valid @maine.edu credentials to access the form. Students must list their mentor; the mentor will be registered automatically and may be asked to attend. Please note that this training does not satisfy the graduate RCR.
  • The training is valid for four years; it is not an annual requirement.
  • If you need assistance with registration please contact Leisa Preble (lpreble@maine.edu) or Andrew Tomer (andrew.tomer@maine.edu).
  • Questions about the federal training requirement may be directed to Andrew Tomer (andrew.tomer@maine.edu).
  • If the student is unable to attend the workshop, another opportunity to complete the training will be provided within the following semester.

Award Funding/Payment

  • Funds are distributed per your budget justification provided at the time of project submission.
  • If you would like to make a change to your budget justification it must be done in writing to cugr@maine.edu before your award student contract is completed.
  • If you have chosen to use the full award amount ($1200.00) as a single fellowship payment it will be divided in half.
  • If you have chosen a partial award payout that will be sent out to you soon after you have completed the student contract, W9 (W8 if necessary) and vendor form.
  • If you chose to use some of the fellowship funds for supplies, travel, etc. please work with your mentor and department to arrange for those supplies and travel to be purchased and scheduled.
  • All terms of this contract must be fulfilled by the determined deadlines or the student award recipient may be required to return the monetary funds and the fellowship may be terminated. If you have any questions or concerns contact Melinda Pelletier, Program Manager, CUGR@maine.edu.
  • The timeline to spend this award is November 1, 2020 – May 1, 20201

 Fellowship Award Reporting

Final report due: Friday, May 14, 2021

  • Your written report is a more complete summary of your work. Final reports should be no more than four pages (using single spacing) – including graphs and charts and no less than two pages. Font – Use Times New Roman or Arial font, 12 point font size.
    – Line Spacing – Use Single and a half Spacing (1.5)

CUGR AY Fellowship Award Final Report Information: 

The report should include:

UMaine Student Symposium UMSS20

All award winners are required to present their research results at the 2020 UMaine Student Symposium, which will be held on April 17, 2020. Award recipients are required to submit an abstract to the UMaine Student Symposium during the designated “Call for Abstracts”. This is separate from the abstract submitted for this Fellowship award, though students can use the exact same abstract if desired. Announcements will be made in the Fall and Spring CUGR newsletters as well as on the CUGR website and social media platforms. Please fill out the required information in this contract before electronically submitting it.

 

Summer Fellowships

  • Summer Fellowship application deadlines are due March 27, 2020, by 5:00 p.m.
  • Performance period pending completion of the CUGR student contract is May 11, 2020 -August 28, 2020
  • Summer final report deadline Friday September 18, 2020

Faculty Support Letters

MSGC Awards

  • Conduct research in areas of interest to NASA
  • Spend time conducting research at a NASA flight center
  • Facilitate the development of a liaison between researchers at the University of Maine and one of NASA’s centers, and
  • Facilitate technology transfer from the University of Maine to industry.

Academic Year MSGC Award Reporting

Final report due: Friday, May 14, 2021

Please note: the MSGC Award reporting requirements are slightly different than the Fellowship Award reporting requirements.

The report should include:

Your written report is a more complete summary of your work. Final reports should be no more
than four pages (using single spacing) – including graphs and charts and no less than two pages.
The report should be in the following format:

Software ‐ Use Microsoft Word software (MSGC uses Version 2010)
Font – Use Calibri font, 11 point font size.
Line Spacing – Use Single Spacing (1.0)
Alignment – Use Align Left (please do NOT use the Justify feature)
Margins – 1” Top, Bottom, Left, and Right Margins.
Paragraph – Do NOT change spacing Before or After (Keep at 0 (default settings).
Figures, Charts, Pictures – With the picture or object selected, under Format, select
In line with text as the wrapping style in the Layout tab. Selecting other options causes
formatting errors. Make sure the information is readable!

Formatting Tools – Do NOT use any of the following formatting tools in your report
as it has caused major problems when we Copy and Paste your report:
Paragraph Spacing (Pt Before and After). Please keep this at 0 (default settings).
Page Numbering
Track Changes (Commentary from your advisor must be deleted before
submitting your paper.)
Headers or Footers
Footnotes or Endnotes
Hyperlinks in body of the paper to Figures, Footnotes, Endnotes, Pictures, or Objects
Protect Document or Password Protection
